I'm giving The ComiX Scene one last shot. I've tried numerous attempts at creating an indie comic site and they've all failed. But I'm trying one more time. I got my old Arts Instruction Schools books sitting in storage. The AIS is no longer open so I think I'll try to convert some of them to comic lessons. I'm not exactly sure how I am going to do that.
When I was a teenager, there was a kid in the neighborhood who still believed in Santa. I couldn't believe that someone over the age of 8 still believed. We had a debate on if Santa was real or not. My point was if Santa was real, why do poor kids not get presents. His response was "well, they must all be bad kids." I feel like I'm having the same kind of debate with Trump supporters. Steph and I saw an interesting comedy special by Jeff Ross called "Jeff Ross roasts the border wall." The comedian, Jeff Ross, interviews people from Brownsville, Texas, a city right on the border of the U.S. and Mexico. It provided some good insight about the immigration issue. I think America is big enough to house immigrants. I don't believe in the argument that "we need to take care of our own." If America did take care of our own, why do we have a homeless problem? Why do children starve in America? Why do our vets not get the care they need? We don't care for our own. It's a dumb counter argument.
I am almost done with Shinsuke Takahashi. This comic took me a year and a half to complete it. It's only 27 pages!!! I'll do my best to get it print ready this weekend. I'm not sure when it'll see print. It'll be split up for Mythos Magazine. It'll also be sold via Comixology. As a stand-alone comic... I am not sure. We're looking at some local printers. We're also thinking of using a place called Overnight Prints. If we go with Overnight, then the comic will be magazine size.
From Paul Ryan- "When (the bill) gets in place, when people see their paychecks getting bigger in February because withholding tables have adjusted to reflect their tax cuts, when businesses are keeping more of what they earn, when they can write off their spending and hire more people, that's going to change its popularity, I am convinced," he told CBS in an interview. "So I think there's just tons of confusion out there as to what this does or doesn't do. A lot of people think it's going to raise their taxes. So the proof is in the pudding, and I think the results will speak for themselves." How does trickle down economics work in a global market? Billionaires and Corporations won't reinvest in America. Why should they? They are beholding to their stockholders. It has been my experience that many corporations do not pass their profit to their employees. It is actually the opposite. It goes to the shareholders first. My wife did an estimate of what we'll owe in 2019. Yeah... we get higher deductions but we're going to pay more taxes. We're not expecting a tax refund for 2018. Better start saving now for the new depression I guess.
My wife recently friended people from high school. It had me thinking about my own childhood. High School was really tough... and awkward. I cannot think of a more weird time in my life, and that includes running around Portland as a superhero. I said a lot of cringy stuff that I wish I could forget. How ridiculous and embarrassing. One of the few good things from that time was creating Totally Naked Man.
www.cnn.com/2017/12/16/health/cdc-banned-words/index.html https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/cdc-gets-list-of-forbidden-words-fetus-transgender-diversity/2017/12/15/f503837a-e1cf-11e7-89e8-edec16379010_story.html I'm shocked that the scientific community has now a list of banned words. I believe in God and Jesus and I don't believe there is nothing in the bible that states that science should not be pursued. I never once read where God bans the practice of scientific research. This smells like the religious alt-right fever that is spreading across this country. It's no different than ISIS. The Bible talks about the end of the world. Well, its coming and the first group being fooled by the golden dotard on the throne is the church. Congratulations.
When I was a kid I sang in a school music group. In front of a City Hall meeting, we sang a song called “Freedom isn’t Free.” I thought it meant a call to serve our country. 30 plus years later it means that some freedoms will become monetized. I am not sure how the dismantling of Net Neutrality will affect publishing my comics online. I don't know yet if I have to pay more for websites and how much I can afford to publish online. Time will tell. If I’d to base my opinion on my experience with Comcast, then I’m SOL. Our brave new world is pretty jacked up. Here is a comic from Moonhead Press called God's End.- http://moonheadpress.blogspot.com/2014/01/gods-end.html. I'm not feeling hopeful for the future today. I just finished the next Schlub comic. My intent is to create a good size buffer before school starts up again. The Schlub will resume January 3rd.
I am done. I just finished my final for my technical writing class. This last term was brutal. I'll be lucky to get by with a C. I just have to remind myself... No one will ask my grade point average.
How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice. I'm not a writer but I want to practice writing for my comics and for the upcoming Mythos Magazine my friend Will and I are working on. George R. R. Martin blogs all the time; not that I'm even close to having any kind of writing skillz as Mr. Martin. My wife bought a new Kindle Fire. I took her old one, bought a used keyboard attachment, and turn it into a laptop for myself. I've installed a blog program called Habari to blog with. It's an older program and the last update was in 2016. I like it because its a blog program and cannot be used as a CMS. WordPress is awesome for website creation but I wanted a simple, no fuss, blog. I'm almost done with Rainbow Ninja a.k.a. Shinsuke Takahashi. I got two more pages to do final colors and then add all the text. I've started another issue of Naked Man Comics. This story centers around Antiman and Icarus. Lastly, I got page one of a new Totally Naked Man Webcomic story. It's based on Pokemon Go.
